SiarFrozen Feeding & Handling Guide

The Ultimate Guide to Safe Whole-Prey Feeding

At SiarFrozen, we are committed to the health of your animals and your safety. Proper handling and defrosting of frozen feeders is critical to prevent bacterial contamination and ensure your exotic pets receive the best possible nutrition.

1. Safe Defrosting Methods

  • The Refrigerator Method (Recommended): Place the required number of feeders in a sealed container and allow them to defrost slowly in the fridge overnight. This is the safest way to prevent bacterial growth.
  • The Warm Water Method: Place the feeders in a watertight bag and submerge them in lukewarm (not boiling) water until they reach room temperature.
  • Never Microwave: Microwaving frozen prey creates dangerous "hot spots" that can cause severe internal burns to your animals.

2. Hygiene & Handling

  • Use Dedicated Tools: Always use feeding tongs (tweezers) to offer prey. This prevents your pet from associating your hand with food and maintains hygiene.
  • Sanitization: Wash your hands and all surfaces thoroughly with antibacterial soap after handling prey items.
  • No Refreezing: Once a feeder has been defrosted, it must be used or discarded. Never refreeze defrosted items.
  • 3. Size Guide & Variety

Ensure the prey item is no wider than the thickest part of your pet's body. Offering a variety of feeders—such as rotating between mice, rats, and chicks—provides a more complete nutritional profile for exotic carnivores
